5K Event Funds White Scholarship
Monday, October 22, 2012

MEDIA RELEASE
OCTOBER 22, 2012

The Black Creek Bowl 5K, Kids Fun Run and More!
Saturday, Nov. 3rd in Middleburg

In February of 2012, Clay County Detective David White was killed in the line-of-duty while fighting crime in our community. A graduate of Middleburg High School’s Class of 1995, White graduated from college and served his country bravely in the U.S. Army. After returning home, White served as a Clay County Sheriff’s Office deputy and detective for nine years. Dave was a proud MHS Bronco Band member and continued to play the trumpet while in the Army and as a distinguished member of our Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard. We believe that it is how White lived, not how he died, that made him a hero and role model.

An event on Saturday, November 3rd—the Black Creek Bowl 5K Run/Walk—will fund the new David White Memorial Scholarship at MHS. Through a partnership with Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #104 and many other community sponsors, event organizers will present a day full of activities in Middleburg for the whole family. The proceeds will fund not only the David White Memorial Scholarship each year, but will also provide additional supplemental college scholarships to selected student-athletes. You can run to win (this is a chip-timed course that can be used for seeding) or just jog/walk for fun. Thank you for your support as we strive to honor a community hero and assist local students as they seek to afford higher education.

“Please join my family for a fun day and support a great cause at the Black Creek Bowl 5K and Kids Fun Run. I am thrilled to be part of this wonderful opportunity to provide scholarships in my husband’s name and to help in the selection of the yearly scholarship recipients. There are many worthy MHS students who deserve to have the collegiate experience. This is an honor for us and such a gift for students in our community.” Jennifer White
