Murder Suicide Investigation in GCS

For Immediate Release
April 8, 2011

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded this afternoon (2:35pm) to a shooting incident in the 2000 block of Knowles Road in Green Cove Springs (cross street is CR 315A).

Two adults, one male and one female, are deceased at the home. There are no other persons injured or harmed in this incident. Detectives believe this is a domestic-related incident involving an estranged couple (exact marital status being researched now). It is an apparent murder-suicide.

Detectives are wrapping up their work at the scene now and are working to locate next of kin for both of the deceased persons. Their names and other information regarding the two involved persons will be released later this evening along with whatever additional details become available.

The CCSO is not providing any on-air personnel at this time to discuss this incident, but additional information will be provided via emailed release as it becomes available.

UPDATE:

In regards to the two shooting deaths (murder-suicide) that occurred earlier today at the home on Knowles Road in Green Cove, the next of kin of both deceased persons have been notified and their names can now be released.

Wallace Mark Herbert, 7/12/60 (suspect)

The Sheriff's Office was informed by a family member of the suspect by phone that the suspect may have harmed the victim at the location on Knowles and deputies responded. The estranged couple were both deceased inside the home and a three year old child was located inside the home as well, unharmed. No other children were inside the home when the shootings occurred. DCF and relatives of the victim arrived on scene to care for and take custody of the couple's four children.

Detectives will continue to investigate the circumstances that led up to today's shooting. No other information is available at this time.
