PUBLIC INFORMATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Stabbing Death Under Investigation in Clay County
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home at 533 Madison Avenue in Orange Park at approximately 7pm last night and began their investigation into a stabbing incident that occurred there. The victim, Joseph Comley (DOB 2-4-77), was transported to Orange Park Medical Center (OPMC) where he died from his injuries. Comley was a resident of the home.
Detectives believe the suspect, Brandon Hand (DOB 7-19-84), was at the home assisting another resident of the home with a project. Witnesses say the victim and the suspect argued and that the victim struck the suspect multiple times as he attempted to leave. The suspect then allegedly stabbed the victim with a pocket knife. Clay Fire Rescue Unit 14 responded and transported Comley to OPMC where he later died. Hand was questioned overnight but is not currently in CCSO custody. An autopsy will be conducted today on the victim and the investigation is ongoing.
The victim’s home was also the location of a reported domestic battery incident on 3/8/10 involving residents of the home, but it remains to be seen if that incident on Monday is in any way related to last night’s stabbing incident. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
