PUBLIC INFORMATION ANNOUNCEMENT
Our investigation into the abduction and murder of Somer Thompson is ongoing and remains a large scale, multi-agency effort.
We have now received 3,600 leads and detective teams continue working to follow up on all remaining workable tips. In addition, we are also waiting on additional results from the lab regarding evidence sent to them for processing. The processing of such evidence is pain-staking and time-consuming, but is very important to the long-term success of this investigation.
As you can imagine, our agency receives numerous requests each day from members of the media for interviews with the Sheriff and/or with members of the Thompson case investigative team. We are trying to make personnel available to you in a way that doesn't jeopardize the case or pull away from the case personnel at critically important times.
To that end, I was able to set up a media availability for tomorrow.
On Friday, November 13th, at 1pm at the Orange Park Operations Center at 212 Blanding Blvd., Lt. Barry Abramowitz will be available for interview with any interested media members. Lt. Abramowitz is in charge of the process through which the many leads have been collected, reviewed, assigned to detectives and then tracked through our specialized computer system. He will ONLY be able to discuss this part of the investigative process...and is not available to discuss the status of the investigation itself. We will not be able to allow media inside the building to video or photograph the leads process in action, however. Please let me know if you have any questions about this.
